Everybody has childhood memories. Everybody has a history. My work is about my youth and my family and my childhood. It was a happy one. But not everybody has nice childhood memories. And what will be the childhood memories of those who are born now? And of those who are growing up in poverty and war?

Standing in front of Zwolle Central Station. With my cuddly dog. I remember that the stiff legs were worn and the iron frame stuck out. It was my grandfathers birthday.

I must have said something to my father who took a photograph on the 5th of June 1958 when I was almost 3 years old.
